King of Fashion

I have been overcome with emotion over the last few days, with the passing of the legend that is Michael Jackson.

He has inspired so many musically, but let's take a moment to remember Michael - the fashion Icon.

Michael in sequin Jacket, which can now be found in almost every high street shop.

And how about that fedora? Just ask Diddy, Meagan Good and Angela Simmons.

Today, I would like to pay tribute to a man who was not afraid to be daring. A man who did with music what many could only dream of.

He gave us Billie Jean, he taught us to moonwalk and made white socks look cool, even if just for a second.

Whatever you think of Michael Jackson the truth is, his shortcomings will never equal his achievements.

He took risks with life, with music and with fashion and his legacy will no doubt continue to influence many generations to come.

I feel very privileged to have lived in the same era as the greatest entertainer the world will ever see.

RIP Michael Joe Jackson

Bey and Rhi do Matthew!

You all know how much I love Beyonce, but if I am being honest her wardrobe has never been of interest to me. I mean, she can sing, act, write and produce. But let's face it, she really shouldn't be allowed to pick out her own clothes.

Below just shows you how bad things can get, when bad taste happens to good clothes.

Beyonce, just hire a stylist!! Better still, hire me and I will make sure Rhianna never embarrasses you like this again!

Rhianna has made this Matthew Williamson gathered leather coat look too sexy for words, by wearing it as a dress, or at least over a very short dress with a sexy pair of boots.

Beyonce on the other hand has given new meaning to the term "layering".

It looks like on this particular day, she decided to wear 3 different trends in one.

It doesn't even look like the same jacket! I am just not sure what is worse, those tacky silver earrings or the gold shoes?

4 in1 Summer Dress Alert!!

With the sudden arrival of summer most of our jumpers and cardigans would have been relegated to the "no-go areas" of our closets, to make room for some heat-friendly clothing.

So, before you rush out and buy a new summer dress, spare a thought for ASOS, who in the spirit of the current recession have provided us with a fabulous summer dress that can be worn in at least 4 very different ways for just £32.

Who cares if your friends tag you on facebook wearing this dress? The next time they see you in it, it will look totally different! Now that's what I call - a "credit crunch busting purchase"...By the way, did I mention it comes in 8 different colours? Check it out

Miss Selfridge Channels Chanel

Those of you that know me, know that I absolutely love Chanel and those that read my blog will notice that to the right of my page, I have displayed my definition of an "Outstanding Piece" - The Chanel Metal Bib-Necklace.

I desperately wanted one and even went as far as trying it on, until the sales advisor told me it costs £8,400. You can imagine my horror, as I carefully removed the necklace, placed it on the counter and made my way to the exit.

But, I was even more shocked when I discovered that Miss Selfridge had created their version. How very dare they? - I thought - Until I actually saw the necklaces for myself. To be honest, I prefer the black one, but the white version is definitely not bad - at all.

Now, I am not comparing Chanel to Miss Selfridge, but considering the £40 price tag, I know which one you'll most likely see me wearing!

Traffic Stopping Heels

Yaaaaayyy......More shoes!!!! I couldn't resist sharing these with you.

Some of them look like they belong in a museum!

Lou Lou

With so many replicas out there, I have never really been a fan of the Louis Vuitton print.

Having said that, I have found myself drawn to the ALMA Monogram Mirror bag. But be warned, these beauties will set you back at least £1200.....Worth the investment?

Oh-Asis!

So, I am not the biggest fan of the store Oasis, but I must say, I am very impressed with their current range of accessories. More importantly, they are all under £15.

These babies would make such a difference to the simplest of outfits, especially the Lion Door Knocker Clip-on earrings - grab them before they go here!

Balmain Madness

So, this weekend I spent more hours than I care to remember looking for a statement jacket, and managed to find myself in Zara which just happens to be my favourite shop on the high street (this month)!

Unable to find anything that ticked all of my imaginary boxes, I decided to find the nearest Starbucks - One needs a regular caffeine top-up when faced with issues such as the one I was faced with!!

As I walked out of the shop, a shiny military style button caught my eye!! Could it be a Balmain replica?? Surely not!!

For those who understand the significance of this find, you can imagine my excitement. I mean, unless you are Mrs Beckham or one of Jay-Z's ladies (Beyonce or Rhianna to be exact) a replica is as close as you really want to get to these jackets!!

With the Denim version, a la Rhi Rhi costing exactly £2920 and Beyonce's wool version rumoured to cost $11,000 (price in £s dependant on current exchange rate), one can only imagine how much Madame Beckham paid for her leather version. Why else would she wear it 3 times in the same month?

To my surprise, the Zara jacket was in fact Balmainesque, but unfortunately my excitement soon faded when I caught a glimpse of myself in it. It just looked wrong on me and I was forced to walk away.

That being said, I applaud Zara's attempt which does look very classy and chic, and with a price tag of £89, if you have been bitten by the Balmain bug and just can't justify spending thousands on a jacket you might as well head to your nearest Zara! Here

Bag Lady

Let's face it . If the average woman were to find herself stranded on a desert island, a quick rummage through her handbag would not only produce a tent big enough to sleep 6 she'd probably also have access to a first aid kit, everything she needs to knock up an apple mojito, cooking utensils, and even a flare gun, just in case she decides she'd like to be rescued!

The point is, in recent times the handbag has never been more important and is now not only a safe haven for our wallets and mobile phones, it also houses life's little essentials such as our Filo fax, folders, safety pins, make-up bag and any other random object we can find as we run out of the door first thing on a Monday morning.

Besides, why wake up 20 minutes early when your make-up can be applied (very skilfully I might add) between Bond street and Liverpool street station??

How can a handbag be functional and yet so chic?.....Take a look at the goodies I found on my travels, and decide for yourself. Enjoy!!

Harem Pants - An extremely brief history

According to Wikipedia,

"Harem pants are described as a baggy pant tapered at the ankle, with side flaps on the hip that are buttoned at the waist area. The popularity of the harem pant circulated in the mid-1980s with MC Hammer."[1]

So, if like me you find yourself constantly updating your wardrobe, at some point you would have found yourself looking at a pair of harem pants asking yourself when MC Hammer became a style icon??

Truth is, as scary as harem pants appear, they CAN look very chic. But be warned, this is a very tricky look to pull off! To date, I have chosen to steer clear of them but don't let that put you off. Be brave and give into the"Hammer" in you!!!

Hello!

Welcome to my world!!

A world where looking good and standing out whatever the occasion is paramount.

The first step to accomplishing this sometimes daunting task is to understand the "canvas" you're working with. i.e. body shape, height, weight etc.

The next step really is about accepting the fact that not all trends are to be followed. Let's face it, some trends are to be handled with care. Take for example, Harem Pants; while they are absolutely fabulous on some women, the fact is they are NOT for everyone. To this day, I still have flashbacks of a lady at the Easy Jet counter in Stansted airport wearing a pair of red satin harem pants which made her appear to be smuggling bananas out of the UK. Not a good look!!!

Following current trends, whilst maintaining your own personal style is key! Put your own personal stamp on every outfit, and remember that just because Sienna got away with it doesn't mean you will too. x
